Wood Pellets as a Biofuel
Have you ever wondered if there was another way to replace the fossil fuels we use every day? There has got to be a better, more
environmentally sound option that can be explored. With everyone concerned about the environment, scientists are looking into other methods to
fuel our everyday needs.
One such method that is quite popular in other countries is using wood pellets as a biofuel. You might wonder why this hasn't caught on all
around the world if it is so popular in some areas. Part of the reason that it hasn't gone worldwide is that that using wood pellets as a biofuel
is still a very new concept.
A country such as Sweden which is densely forested has begun the new practice of using biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels. In fact,
wood pellets are starting to replace firewood as well in countries that use this method.
As biofuels such as wood pellets increase in use, other methods of biomass wastes will start being considered in regards to replacing fossil
fuels. It has been shown that using fuel sources such as wood pellets can be used quite effectively in residences and are quite inexpensive when you compare them to fossil fuels in
large scale heat and power plants.
Again, part of the reason that wood pellets have not been declared the largest breakthrough in the welfare for the environment is because it
is still a new form of technology. As Sweden takes advantage of this new source of alternative fuel, it is also being studied in depth throughout
the world.
If history has taught us anything, we have learned not to just jump on the bandwagon before we know what we're dealing with.
Wood pellets as a biofuel what the world now has to consider and study in depth.
Scientists have to make sure that it is safe for the environment if this practice was followed all around the world. One of the great aspects
of using wood pellets is that it is a renewable source, unlike fossil fuels.
With fossil fuels we can only use what the earth has to offer, after it's gone there is no more. Wood pellets on the other hand can be grown,
and therefore is a renewable energy source that can be replaced.
Another advantage is that wood pellets are more affordable, and in Sweden, the use of wood pellets has actually helped create the need for
more workers in the field, thus creating more jobs.
As with anything, there are also some downsides, though so far there are too many and they are quite insignificant.
Using wood pellets are not quite as convenient as using fossil fuels. When producing such a fuel source, there has to be adequate storage
facilities for such fuel. Also there is the need for control and removal of the ashes. In all there aren't too many drawbacks so far, but many
advantages of using wood pellets as a biofuel.
Only time will tell if wood pellets are the way of the future as a major fuel source for the world.
