Making Your Mark On The Internet

This internet is becoming an extremely important marketing tool -- and for obious reasons too. With the ability to project your personal brand in every country of the world, to your ultra specific target market, you can't go wrong with setting up a presence on the internet. So, where are some places to shout out about your personal brand?

  1. Get a Blog - This has to be my number one piece of advice in marketing your personal brand on the interenet. Not only does it allow you to easily update your site, it's a personal and informal mode of communication which you can use to convey your personality and character traits through. My main blog has been instrumental to my networking whereby I have met popular people such as Ed Roach, Yaro Starak and Danielle Rodgers. Without my blog, I doubt I'd even be writing this webpage for you right now. To put the answer straight as to "Why do blogs work for building your brand", they allow you to continually add and update content as you see put. This means, search engines will lap it up so you'll be listed for your name much easier and all those other doctors in the world which share your name will come under you in search results for your name.
  2. Get a Google Pages Account - One of my favourite little free things in this world has been the introduction of google's personal webpage developer. I've since recieved mine and I hope to use it to help promote all my sites which I develop. It's simple to use, effective at SEO and it's free. Make sure you pop in ASAP to get your own subdomain there.
  3. Write on Someone Else's Blog - Perhaps the next best thing to having your own blog, is being able to leverage the popularity of someone ele's blog for the benefit of increasing the recognition for your name. Often times the people whose sites you will write for will allow you to add a link back to your own website and in turn help your rankings in search engines for your name. I've done it and it has really helped me advocate myself as an expert in the field of marketing, branding and promotion.
  4. Offer good Advice in Forums related to your speciality - Another nice trick to demonstrate yourself as an expert in your profession is to offer great advice on forums. You will meet a lot of other like-minded people in these and hopefully you will be able to leverage these realtionships to create a professional network which you can rely on. However, a more immediate effect of writing on a forum is that you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge to a large bunch of people and often times, the forum will allow you to use a signature under every post you make which will also help your search engine rankings.
  5. Keep an about you page up to date - If people come accross your website wanting to know about you, chances are that they're going straight to your about page. Make sure you update this page regularly as your strategic direction may change quite a lot.
  6. Get a Linked in profile - Linked In is an awesome way to devcelop a professional network and it's all free. The more people you know on Linked In - the more opportunity you have to develop and build your personal brand through jobs/projects and relationships.
